Bishop Lanier C. Twyman, Sr. is the Senior Pastor of the St. Stephen Baptist Church in Temple Hills, Maryland.

A native Washingtonian, Bishop Twyman has a degree in Business Management from the University of the District of Columbia and a Biblical Studies degree from Andersonville Baptist Bible College and Seminary. Bishop’s studies have provided him opportunities to study on the campuses of Harvard, Princeton and Yale Universities.

GOD continues to enlarge Bishop’s mission-related territory. He was chosen to participate in the Lott Carey Foreign Mission Pastoral Excellence Program which afforded him the opportunities for mission trips to Guyana, Jamaica and Italy. He has also traveled to Peru for mission work.

Bishop serves as an Executive Board member of the Baptist Convention of Washington, DC and Vicinity and a member of the Missionary Baptist Ministers’ Conference. Bishop Twyman is a jurisdictional Bishop in the Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship, providing oversight in Washington, DC, Prince Georges and Montgomery Counties in Maryland. He serves on the St. Jude Sunday of Hope Board of Advisories for the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Before Bishop was called to Pastor the St. Stephen Baptist Church, and because of his continual quest for lost souls, he founded the Mountain Top Ministries (MTM) in 1995. MTM is an urban outreach ministry that serves and evangelizes in homeless shelters and nursing homes, and is currently an arm of the fifty-plus ministries that comprise the St. Stephen Baptist Church.

Bishop Twyman is a sought-after gifted preacher and teacher, whose hallmark humility has made many fond of him, as he is well-respected in the ecumenical and civic communities throughout the country.

Although his life is filled with many accomplishments, the participation in many organizations and outreach activities, he is passionate and dedicated to his family, and is grateful to GOD for the various opportunities afforded him.

He is married to the former Tonya Garnes and proud father of three sons, Lanier Jr., Joshua and James.
